Power meters are your friend... or they are your enemy. Today, we are friends. Today I completed an identical short max-test and uphill tabata protocol I did 1 month ago... Average seated power is up 76 watts, average standing power up 142 watts. Wow. Weighed 169 on March 1st, 163 on April 1st. I did each specific effort in same gearing, and I was 11-14 rpms HIGHER this go-around, averaging 2-3 more mph. Power files, I love you. Specificity is a wonderful thing... Ive pretty much been a one-trick pony for the last 7 years straight, contesting TTs with fierce intent and just entering other road and off-road events. This year, more MTB, more cyclo-cross. Its taking severe effort getting my power curve elevated, but the watts are coming... Last Saturday at Muddy Tire MTB race, singular goal was to master fueling strategy and make zero mistakes on the bike -- take good lines, no flubs, smart pacing... I pretty much did that -- excect for disastrous wrong turn in final mile, 2nd to 4th LOL... This Sunday at Sugar Hill MTB in Maryland, Race Goal is to contest for holeshot, be top-3 into the singletrack. Even if it hurts my overall race, its important to have singular race goals for these early-season events and then fully commit to them (I did the same thing for TTs). Excited to see what the legs have for Sunday. And you type a lot :-|
