Heres the thing that most people dont understand: When you work for money youre always limited. Always. In fact, a lot of the limitations will come from your own mind. Youll be thinking about the exchange of your time and effort for money. Thats the limited path. The moment you think about your time and effort in exchange for money, youre already playing the wrong game. When I was starting out, I worked to learn the industry, learn the ropes, get good and master the craft. I didnt really care about the money. I wasnt working for the money. In fact, I saw it as getting paid to learn and hone my skills. With that mindset, I was not limited by the same limitations that most have: My working hours is only from xx to xx. To me, that was foolish. They were limiting their own learning time. On the other hand, I was getting paid to learn as much as I could - there were no limitations on how much I could learn other than from myself. There were no limitations other than my drive and hunger... and I was hungrier than most. Thats when I realised... Most people are playing a different game than us. Theyre playing the immediate, instant gratification game. We are playing the longer term, build the foundation first and win big game. Very different game. Most peoples goal: Maximise money in exchange of their time. Our goal: Maximise learning to become a master. Then let our knowledge and results unlock the floodgates of wealth. Be so good others cant ignore you. Heres the kicker... Time is limited. Everyone has the same 24hrs. Exchanging time for money is ALWAYS limited. In sharp contrast, knowledge and results are limitless. You can always scale and improve to grow bigger. Its a different game, with different rules. (Side note: Does it mean playing the time for money game is wrong? Ans: It depends. If you want to achieve massive success, yes its the wrong game to play. Even if you win it, you wont get what you want. But if your goal is other things, it might be the right game for you. Just be aware of the choices you make.) Heres a critical, open secret about success & money: Success & money are attracted to excellence. When youre excellent in what you do, success and money will come. There is no stopping them. On the same token, money hates incompetence. It avoids it like a plague. When I was working, I usually got promoted multiple times, fast... because I focus on learning and delivering results, not clocking in and out. And Im super happy to know that my team members have adopted similar mindset. Theyre focusing on learning and producing great results and on the long term goal. Thats why Ive given increments not just once or twice, but multiple times to them in less than a year. Not just because Im generous or fair (which I think I am :) ), but because they become so great in what they do that others cant deny it - they deserve it. And Im so happy with their growth.
