Power to the People - Asset Sales Referendum We now have 191 members in 50 towns throughout the country ( p2p.org.nz/progress/map ). Up until now our focus has simply been to attract new members to build our organisation. With 191 engaged, proactive leaders on board the time has come to take some real world action. There are two significant ways we have identified to contribute to the national conversation. a). Supporting citizen participation, leadership and engagement. Doing this by providing resources, support and a platform for peoples ideas, campaigns and innovative solutions. b). Supporting a broad, inclusive national conversation about the future direction of our country. Doing this by providing non partisan, open and inclusive forums for people to grow, learn and work together. The first encourages people to find their voice, to participate and to become leaders. The second is what makes Power to the People different. If we want to see great ideas and solutions built into the fabric of our society we will need to reach across traditional left/right boundaries and create real buy in from everyone. The Asset Sales Referendum makes a great starting point for both these aims. It is both a broad national conversation about our future and also chance to get in behind our members as they make their opinions and feelings count. It is a golden opportunity to promote citizen participation, engagement and leadership. It is unique because we are all included in this national conversation about our future by default. This is not a small group of activists asking government to act. This is government sending voting papers to every registered voter in the country. Power to the People encourages our members to make their voice heard. Dont just vote in the referendum encourage others to vote as well. To play our part Power to the People has launched: ivoted.org.nz This is a platform to encourage people to vote, promote and participate in the referendum. It helps people have a voice by providing: 1. Forums in over 60 towns and cities throughout the country to encourage people to connect up with others who want to promote the referendum. 2. An email linking service to help those who dont use other online tools to link up. Please support the hard work of our admin staff and programmers by visiting ivoted.org.nz and signing up to the mailing lists, joining groups, leaving your message and sharing this resource with your contacts. Lets send the government a clear message that we as citizens want to actively participate in the leadership of our country. Warm Regards, Richard -- Richard Thomas Power to the People p2p.org.nz/
