Praise God from whom all blessing flow,it is the new year 2015. Today is 01/02/2015. A year of release,a jubilee of a kind, welcome to the new year and please be excited because not everybody made it. Our topic for consideration this year is BREAKING YOUR FALLOW GROUNDS, what an interesting topic to start the year with. Breaking or cultivating a ground is an agricultural term which we shall consider quite well for us to have through understanding of what we are to do. Moses led the children of Isreal from Egypt through the wilderness going towards the promise land, when Moses died Joshua continued to lead them. This simply tells us that on our way to our promise land there is a need for Mosess and Joshuas to guide us to our destined place. It is quite interesting when Joshua took over after the death Moses and led the children of Isreal on their journey for many years that the Lord spoke to Joshua these words Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. (Joshua 13:1 KJV) What the Lord is saying to you and I in this new year is that no matter how much progress we have made in the previous year in our walk with the Lord, there is still much more land to cover. The best way to cover more and be productive is to break our fallow ground so that we do not sow among thorns. Our text for this year study is taking from the book of Jeremiah, let us look at it together. For thus saith the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. (Jeremiah 4:3 KJV) Breaking your fallow ground has to be done by you, not by your friends, prayer partner, pastor, husband, wife or your children Thus saith the Lord, this is kind of serious, this not an admonition not an advice and obviously not a suggestion, the Lord is talking to you and I to break up our fallow ground, the interesting word in this verse is FALLOW. What is fallow? FALLOW simply means : a land plowed and left unseeded for a season or more; uncultivated. Not in use; inactive. It is very obvious that we can break up our fallow ground and still sow among thorns. I really love the bible verse in the amplified version. Let us look at it, For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: Break up your ground left uncultivated for a season, so that you may not sow among thorns. (Jeremiah 4:3 AMP). The word that really caught my attention is left unseeded for a season or more This thought brought to my mind the story that Jesus told us in the bible. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation. (Matthew 12:43-45 KJV) This is not just talking about evil or unclean spirit, but generally if we leave any aspect of our life uncultivated for a season terrible things can happen and can cost us more than we are willing to pay, keep us longer than we are willing to stay. What is the antidote for this problem of leaving our house empty? The answer is found in the bible, let us take a look at it, Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. (Hosea 10:12 KJV). Hosea the prophet gave us a hint that is needed, when you break up your fallow ground then it is time to seek the Lord in the area that we need to develop or cultivate, it may be developing your prayer life or grow in love etc. Let us look at the story of Jacob, And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacobs thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. (Genesis 32:24-30 KJV) Jacob needed to break up his fallow ground so as to change is identity from a supplanter to a prince, he had to wrestle to have his name changed. When you break up your fallow ground your name must changed, it will change your outward appearance, you might have to walk with a limp for while, you might be lonely for sometime. From Jacob to Isreal is a spiritual warfare. Till next week, we shall begin to consider the ground. Thought for the week But now are they many members, yet but one body. (1 Corinthians 12:20 KJV) Let us keep this thought because we are going to be looking at our lives from many angles and it is still one body or ground. Again happy new year to you all, remember it is a year of release from whatever is preventing you to break your fallow ground.
