Pray from the Heart Matthew 6:7-8 “When you pray, don’t - TopicsExpress

Pray from the Heart Matthew 6:7-8 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!” Matthew 6:7-8 (NLT). This verse is very straightforward (as the Bible often is); it points out one of the biggest traps that we tend to fall into: repeating the same prayer, thoughtlessly and mindlessly. Here Jesus is saying that people mistakenly think their prayers are answered by repeating meaningless words, but what God is really looking for is a sincere heart—an authentic conversation. You see, our Creator doesn’t want us to simply repeat words others have told us to say; no, God wants us to speak to Him from the heart, crying out to Him with our sorrows, our joys, our troubles, our praises—the deepest desires of our heart. He wants us to come to Him as to a friend, to talk to Him as we would to our best buddies. He wants to listen to the pleas of our soul. He wants to be the One to comfort us and give us peace. He wants us to know Him as He knows us.
