Prayer of an aging man Past three-score and ten, he feels good - TopicsExpress

Prayer of an aging man Past three-score and ten, he feels good every morning. His heart gives thanks to whatever is responsible. It is a daily prayer. The head says it cannot last; suddenly, unexpectedly ... or gradually, with increasing age, there will come a time when getting up each morning will be a painful task, getting through the day a large accomplishment. What will he think then? Will he bemoan his fate, curse the need to face another unendurable day? Philosophers and poets for centuries have described the battle of heart and head. Gratitude is pure feeling; he prays now from the heart. How can he prepare for the day when moments of pain outnumber those of comfort, pleasure? Let him pray now for strength to resist moaning and cursing-- and for the wisdom to let the head take over, to think, Its been good; now I must pay the price without complaint. Written by my grandfather in 1995, and read today at his service. We love you Nono and you will live eternally within us. Thanks for helping me find this beautiful poem!
