Praying that the City Fathers next Tuesday take a stand against the BLIGHT that makes the Jewel an unattractive place. I am praying that a fair, middle of the road approach that respects BOTH the rights of property owners (MANY who do not even LIVE in Connellsville!) AND the many city homeowners who are TIRED of seeing their property value depressed by the blight that is all sadly all too prevalent. Watching the last city council meeting where this was debated, I cannot help but sympathise with Tuffy Shallenbergers frustration as he addressed City Council. We are NOT going to move forward with all the boarded up, falling down buildings. My right to extend my arm ends at your nose ... a quote that I think is from Thomas Jefferson. The bottom line being that any RIGHT we have (i.e. to the ownership of property) comes with corresponding RESPONSIBILITIES. And the two must ALWAYS be balanced. The people who are letting a beautiful city fall into ruin are claiming their RIGHTS without accepting their RESPONSIBILITIES!! I only have to look at the absolutely BEAUTIFUL and HISTORIC house on 3rd St that the present owner has allowed to crumble into dust to be reminded of how TRUE this is. If you care about our future PLEASE share!!
