Precious Nuggets by Pam Lowe 11/27/13 For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12, NIV Gods Word is active. The NKJ uses the word powerful, meaning energizing. Gods Word is living and it energizes. The Word of God is always doing something to those who read, hear, and obey it. Every believer must give themselves to the Word and allow it to search and try them. The Word is sharper than any double-edged sword. A sword is used to wound, to pierce, cut, and divide. Roman soldiers at this time had double-edged swords, but notice the Word is sharper that any man-made weapon. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow. The intent of Gods Word is to penetrate and divide the inner life. Only Gods Word can pierce through to the inner being down to the very thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The Word is the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17); it is a spiritual sword in the hands of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit shows up, God shows up. The Holy Spirit teaches and guides into truth in such a way as to reach the heart of the hearer. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. It is with the heart that we worship and serve God. It is in the heart that Christ comes and dwells (Eph. 3:17). The Word of God has to deal with our hearts. The soil of the heart has to be good for the seed to get implanted so that there is growth. Many people do not understand this simple truth. Jesus Christ is the Living Word. In His temptation with Satan in the wilderness, Jesus used the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) as His powerful weapon and won the victory over Satan (see Luke 4:1-13). O Father, the wonderful thing about Jesus is that He is the Living Word. He desires to dwell in my heart, and to dwell therein, He has to examine my heart deep with the written Word. I pray that You would, give me an undivided heart that I may fear Your Name (Ps. 86:11). I ask it in the Living Name of Jesus, Amen.
