“Precious Pieces of Portland” Opens On this Sunday, November 10, the Portland Historical Society and the third graders of Gildersleeve School will proudly open a special exhibit,“Precious Pieces of Portland,” at the Ruth Callander House Museum of Portland History. Family members and friends are invited to “Come on Over!” to this grand opening of this exhibit that features the original postcards drawn by each of the third graders. During October the students studied Portland history, took a bus tour of Portland landmarks and a walk with local hiker, John LeShane, at the reservoir and Meshomasic State Forest. Their tour bus drove them all around town and their observations included the quarries and the old schoolhouses. This month the 3rd grade classes will visit the Ruth Callander House Museum of Portland History for a guided tour. Each third grader has chosen an important part of Portland’s past or present to illustrate on a postcard design. Come delight in what caught the attention of these students. All the students’ postcards will be exhibited at the museum, with the opening on this Sunday from 2—4 p.m. This year’s Precious Pieces of Portland contest winners are Annette LeShane (First Place), Ginia Lin (Second Place), Alex Hair (Third Place), Anna Fatoli (Honorable Mention), and Joe Rusczyk (Honorable Mention). The museum, located at 492 Main Street, Portland, will be open this Sunday, November 10, from 2-4 p.m.
