Preparation For the Firefighter Examination TPM Study Guide and Practice Test Candidates will be able to download a copy of the TPM study guide from the City of Philadelphia Office of Human Resource’s website (phila.gov/personnel) 4-6 weeks before the exam. Hard copy study guides will also be available at all Philadelphia Free Library branch locations and other locations for candidates who do not have access to a computer or a printer. Candidates will not be permitted to take the study guides away from the library or other facilities. (A list of locations will be provided at least 4-6 weeks before the exam). Candidates will be notified when the TPM Study Guide is available. Candidates are strongly encouraged to begin reading and memorizing the content in the study guide as early as possible. Studies show that candidates who begin studying well in advance of the examination date perform better on the TPM Test compared to those candidates who wait until the last week to prepare for the test. A TPM practice test will also be available on the City of Philadelphia Office of Human Resource’s website (phila.gov/personnel) for download. The practice test is a diagnostic tool, i.e., it can provide guidance to candidates on those chapters that should be given further study. In FPSI’s TPM Practice Tests, you will find ten carefully selected items from each of the chapters in the Test Preparation Manual. None of the items in the practice test are included in the actual TPM test. NOTE: Candidates should not purchase the practice test from FPSI. The practice test will be available for download AT NO COST to all approved applicants 4-6 weeks before the exam date on the Office of Human Resources website. FPSI will not provide a refund to any applicant who purchases the practice test from FPSI. Pre-Examination Training Session The Office of Human Resources will also offer a “mini-academy” approximately two – three weeks prior to the examination date for those candidates who are interested in attending a training session on preparing for the TPM Test. During this orientation, candidates will be provided with effective study skills and will have an opportunity to ask questions about the TPM content.
