Prepare for strong winds and showers developing late tonight and lasting through early Friday afternoon. As a low pressure system moves northeast of the Great Lakes, it is forecast to rapidly intensify. Showers are forecast to develop overnight ahead of its approaching trailing cold front. An increasing pressure gradient between the approaching cold front and offshore high pressure system will produce strong winds. The heaviest rainfall of ½ to ¾-inch is forecast to remain west and north of New York City, with the heaviest rain occurring during the Friday morning rush hour. The strongest winds are forecast across Long Island and Southern CT, where a Wind Advisory has been issued from New Haven County east and for Nassau and Suffolk Counties from 6 am until 4 pm on Friday. Southwest winds are forecast to increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph during this time. forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=NPW&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
