Presenting my first official short story after 4 years of never writing. I promise its not what youre expecting, and I hope you cry when reading it. #writing #stories Stars Even now, she was beautiful. Then again, she always was, wasn’t she? When the world was grey and colourless…she was full of colour. In ashes, she burned brightly. I always wondered how she ended up with someone like me. I leaned down in front of her, a small and soft smile crossing my face. Her hair was bit untidy, but even in being imperfect, she was perfect. I sat down on the cold floor, the wind blowing gently, bringing a few dull orange leafs to fly past us both. Fall. How I loved the fall. And so did she. I still remember the park, with its single, concrete path, surrounded by trees. Tress and its 4 benches, one which they never finished painting. We’d always laugh about that. The unpainted bench. But it was okay, because it was our bench. I chuckled. Those were the days… I pulled the flower out of its pouch. A white lily. Her favourite. “Like it?” I asked her. “ ..I found it at the store a few days ago…” My smile fading. “and...I thought to myself…that I should save it for today” My smile returning as I said the last sentence. July 1st. Her Birthday. She didn’t say anything of course. I didn’t blame her. I sighed, my breath coming out in a little cloud, thanks to the cold weather. But I didn’t mind. My jacket was keeping her warm, so I was perfectly content. I warmed my hands gently before continuing; “…Y’know…I still remember the first day I saw you. Walking down that old path in park…as the orange leafs flew down. You were so…captured by it all...” I said chuckling softly again. “ You in your green scarf, dark dress and….” I stopped, turning my gaze to the ground. I could feel my eyes start to water. God this was cheesy. And yet here I was, doing it myself. “…perfect smile.” A single tear rolled down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away and composed myself. Don’t be a wimp she would say, and I laughed. I looked back to her. Her eyes still retained their color, and I was thankful for that. Blue. Like the sky. I missed waking up to those. I missed coming home to those. Because every time I did, the world looked a just a tiny bit brighter. I continued. “ …I wished to go back to that…go back to…” I moved my eyes down to the red bite mark on her hand. “ ..go back to us…” I finished. Before the world tipped. “ But that dosen’t matter dose it. I started and stopped again. I never liked things like this. I hated goodbyes. I inhaled shakily. Happy Birthday... She snarled and growled now, slowly and gradually becoming more violent. I sighed. I was cracking now. My eyes were watering heavily now, and fist was clenched so tightly my hand began to turn numb. It had been a few days since shed been bit in her hand. I guess I should have seen it coming. Flower in hand, I stood up, reaching into the black leather holster my father gave me. From there, I pulled out the heavy pistol. She was feral now, struggling against the chains I had placed earlier. Her skin had already become pale and her eyes had started to dull. I aimed the gun to her, trembling as I did it. This wasnt the first time Ive done this. Neither would it be the last. But because it was her, my heart could sink to the bottom of the ocean and drag me along with it. The wind blowed harder than ever and the world began spin. I gritted my teeth and sobbed through my clenched teeth. She lashed out, growling and screaming like an animal once more. And thats when I realized...it had to be me, didnt it? Hold. The chains creaked. Safety off. Her teeth snapped. Grip. Again. Hold. A gain. Trigger. Pull. Pull. Pull! ...Im sorry... And I pulled the trigger. And her eyes faded out for the last time. I burned her body that night and left. Her eyes burned in mind. Memories flooded my head. The bench. The leaves. The smile. Her eyes. As I looked into the sky that night...I couldnt help but feel that the stars looked a little bit brighter than usual.
