President John Dramani Mahama says preparatory work on the upgrading of the Volta and Central Regional Hospitals into Teaching Hospitals is progressing smoothly. tandards of a teaching hospital. Mr. Mahama announced that the Ho teaching hospital would serve the practical needs of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, while the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital will enable students of the UCC Medical School to undertake their practical work. The President was speaking at the first oath swearing and induction ceremony of forty-two newly qualified medical doctors at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) School of Medical Sciences on Saturday. Saturday’s graduation was the first for the Medical School and according to the Dean of the School and the UCC Vice Chancellor, a lot of hard work and sacrifices has brought the school to its current position. According to the President, the Eastern Region will also have a new public university to conclude the vision of a public university in each region of the country. He noted that the expansion of facilities in hospitals across the country would help to improve the doctor-patient ratio. President Mahama advised the new doctors to live up to their responsibilities and abide by the physicians oath and the national pledge in the performance of their duties. He called for professionalism and the exhibition of a great sense of humility in the handling of patients. The UCC Medical School has a total student population of 304. Dr. Yvonne Ayerki Nartey won 12 out of the 20 awards for outstanding students.
