President Uhuru Kenyatta consulted US President, Barrack Obama, before he made a decision to honour the summons issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), requiring him to appear before The Hague Court based on Wednesday. According to a senior State House official, Uhuru spoke to Obama on Sunday afternoon and the US strongman advised him to go The Hague and clear his name. The 30 minute telephone conversation between Uhuru and Obama touched on ICC, democracy in Kenya and instability in Central African Republic and Somalia. “My brother, go to ICC and clear your name. As it is, the case is good as dead,” Obama told Uhuru. “I am sure you will come out victorious,” Obama added. Uhuru also had long conversations with Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi and South Africa’s Jacob Nzuma “The consultations were far and wide,” a source familiar with the dialogue confirmed. It is after these conversations that Uhuru decided to relinquish his post as the President of Kenya and handed over to his Deputy, William Ruto. Uhuru is expected to appear before the ICC on Wednesday morning.
