President Xi’s wife receives “best birthday gift” in New Zealand Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President #XiJinping, received an honorary doctorate on Thursday from Wellingtons #MasseyUniversity in acknowledgment of her career as a singer, which was hailed by Peng as “the best gift for a birthday”. Thursday is Peng’s 52nd birthday and she was visiting the University while accompanying President Xi as he paid a state visit to #NewZealand. During Xi’s visit, China and New Zealand agreed to expand their trade relationship, including a television co-production deal, which will be the first #TV program that China has signed with a foreign country. Meanwhile, New Zealand has proposed more exports of dairy products to China and will welcome more Chinese students to study in the country by simplifying visa application procedures. On Thursday, Xi and Peng received a traditional #Maoriwelcome in Wellington, including pressing of noses and foreheads.
