President telephones President-elect of Iran Karachi, 19 June 2013: President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday evening telephoned President-elect of Iran Dr. Hassan Rohani and felicitated him on being elected as the President. Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the President while felicitating Dr. Hassan Rohani said that his election was a demonstration of the confidence of the people in his leadership and in his abilities to steer the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity. He expressed the hope that under the leadership of Dr. Hassan Rohani, Iran would continue to make rapid progress and play its role for the peace and stability of the region. The President said that the people of the two countries are tied together by close historical, religious and fraternal bonds and expressed hope that these would further strengthen in the days ahead. He said that the leadership in Pakistan looked forward to work with the Iranian leadership for further strengthening of the existing multifaceted cooperative and cordial relations between the two countries. The President also conveyed his best wishes to Dr. Hassan Rohani for his good health and the well-being of the people of Iran.
