On the one hand, the BJP led government has not initiated any action against NDTV and former Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, despite their having been caught by the Income Tax Department for laundering Rs 5500 crore. On the other hand, the BJP government is continuing with the harassment being meted out to MANUSHI by the previous UPA government by ordering a frivolous FCRA inquiry into Manushi Sangathan’s account. This action is particularly bizarre considering that MANUSHI has been at the forefront of a nationwide campaign that there be a transparent & thorough public inquiry via a Truth Commission into the functioning of NGOs that depend on western donor agencies for pursuing their agendas and are brazenly violating the terms and conditions laid down by the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010.
