Press Release Regarding the Bloodshed in Egypt The Democratic Party condemns the excessive use of force in Rabi’a Al-Adawiya and Nahdha squares. It did not help Egypt’s transition to democracy in any way. We send our condolences to the families of the killed and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. We had fully supported the Egyptian people’s spectacular revolt of the 30th of June and cheered the army’s intervention on their behalf on the 3rd of July which put an end to the Brotherhood’s evil rule. We considered the army’s intervention necessary for putting Egypt back on the road to democracy. However, we would like in this brief statement to clarify our position further in the full knowledge that the destinies of both Egypt and Libya are intertwined. The Arab Spring makes them even more so. The popular revolt came as a direct result of the Brotherhood’s unmistaken assault on Egyptian national identity as they sought to turn Egypt into a Brotherhood state in total disregard of the democratic process and of the wishes of the people. The Brotherhood used the democratic process as a tool for their evil designs taking advantage of the political upheaval the country was going through. The Freedom and Justice Party was in fact a mere front for the Brotherhood as the people were shocked to learn. President Morsi took his orders directly from the Brotherhood as he did not see himself accountable to the Egyptian people who had elected him. The Brotherhood, which is largely a secret society, was in effect governing Egypt without having any democratic mandate. The people could not have voted them out if they wanted to; they were simply above the democratic process. Democracy was in mortal danger as the 25th of January revolution was being hijacked by the Brotherhood. To ordinary Egyptians this was worse than the Mubarak days. Certainly, this was not what they bargained for, but they were not going to sit idly by watching. When the popular revolt came, the Brotherhood was quick to cry wolf and to claim democratic legitimacy. It did not have any. Indeed the Freedom and Justice Party had already forfeited all rightful claims to democratic legitimacy because of its scandalous disregard for the will of the people and for democratic rules. The evil ways of the Brotherhood should not come as a surprise to anyone who is acquainted with their fascist literature and their long history of fighting democracy and equating it with apostasy. The Brotherhood’s religious pretences are but a charade and a big lie. The Democratic Party considers the immediate dissolution of The Brotherhood to be a matter of Egyptian and Arab national security. This evil organisation must be banned all over the Arab World. The Democratic Party calls for the whole Muslim World to adopt Muslims’ secularism. It considers the separation of the mosque and the state to be pivotal for putting an end to the age old problem of the abuse of religion by despots and charlatans. Man must not be allowed to play God any longer. Enough is enough. In this respect we condemn the Saudi regime’s tireless and cowardly attempts to return Egypt to a police state in the hope of dealing the Arab Spring a fatal blow. We know full well that the Arab Spring will not be victorious until Mecca and Medina are finally liberated; and they will be. Egypt nowadays is in need of the support of all the freedom loving peoples of the world. This is why we propose the mandating of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to Egypt by the United Nations as a necessary step towards helping her establish true democracy. It is now time for the army and Al- Azhar to leave the political scene so that the transition to democracy may take its natural course. Finally, the Democratic Party would like to express its deep dismay at the failure of Western governments to support the brave Egyptian people’s democratic aspirations. Was it a case of hegemony and money come first, yet again? May God save Egypt and grant her democracy and prosperity.
