Press Statement Sivarraajh Chandran MIC National Youth leader 4/11/2014 Let Christians build church and pray peacefully Various Muslim NGOs are objecting to the construction of a three-storey church in Bandar Sunway. The reasons they give have no merit at all. They object on the grounds that the area PJS 8/9 Bandar Sunway is a Muslim majority area, that you can see the church from the roads and that it is unsuitable for a state where the Sultan, the Chief Minister and all the chief administrators are all Muslims. There is no area in Malaysia that is not Muslim-majority and so therefore going by the Muslim NGOs reasoning, no church can ever be constructed. Muslims are the majority in the country. By 2020 they will be 70% of the population and rising. Does this mean that no temples, no church and no guruduwaras can be built? Being the majority in the country, Muslims must feel confident about their religion and understand and allow that other religions also need to be protected and promoted. It makes no sense to object to a church in Bandar Sunway simply because one can see it from the roads. So what? It also makes no sense for the Muslim NGOs to object on the grounds that the Sultan, Chief Minister and other administrators are all Malays. These grounds for objection are simply nonsensical and do not merit the slightest consideration. Having a church in Bandar Sunway is definitely Jaya not an insult to Islam but recognition that Christians need a church to pray peacefully in accordance with the laws of the country. People who pray make for law loyal, patriotic and law abiding citizens as well. We should all promote mutual trust, respect and moderation the various races and not allow inter-ethnic relations to degenerate and spin out of control.
