Press release / summary of Street High Street Area Action Plan 2013 to 2018 Street Parish Council has produced an Action Plan to deliver its vision of creating a vibrant, dynamic and successful centre. The Council is working with local businesses, organisations and the local community to improve the viability and vitality of the centre of Street and attract inward investment. Key themes in the medium term include: • Extending the hanging baskets in the High Street to include Farm Road and Leigh Road plus continuing to support the planters in the centre of Street. • Installation of a large clock tower in the High Street in front of Crispin Hall including a flower bed and finger signs. • Put banners on the street lights in the High Street, Farm Road and Leigh Road to be designed by local schools and organisations. • Update the map boards with new displays and repaint to be more eye-catching. The Chamber of Trade to provide a new leaflet listing the shops in the High Street to be available in a new dispenser in Farm Road. Looking further ahead from 2015 onwards, it is hoped to create a piazza style area in the library garden, working closely with The Library Trust. In addition, the Parish Council wishes to enhance Merriman Park as an attractive public open space to be well signposted from the High Street. It is also hoped that the North Side pavement of the High Street can be paved to match the South Side. It is hoped to fund a significant number of the planned developments with Section 106 money including that given by Sainsbury’s when the Street store was first extended in 2005. Other costs will be met by the Parish Council, Chamber of Trade and local sponsorship. Street Parish Council and its partners are excited about the future for Street and would welcome any comments on these proposals. Please contact the Council on 01458 440588, [email protected] or write to us at 6 Leigh Road, Street, BA16 0HA by Friday 16th August, 2013 if you would like your views to be taken into account before the Action Plan is approved.
