Pretty Girlfriend in cardigan sweater has informed me that she will be going on a silent retreat in a couple of weeks. I know little of such things but it struck me that maybe she shouldnt have told me. I would think that the first rule of a silent retreat is; Dont talk about silent retreats. Ill miss her when she goes. We only see each other on weekends so when she goes away it means two weeks between visits. Though, I am glad that she is going as I know she values these type of goings on. I wonder if shell call when shes away? I envision answering the phone with no one speaking on the other end. Maybe shell just making humming noises. Mm, mm mm mmmmmm. Maureen? mm. How are you? Mmmm mmmm mm. Perhaps Ill come up with a code; can you tap once for yes, twice for no? That sort of thing. She asked me if I wanted to go with her, politeness on her part, Im sure. Not that she wouldnt want me there. Its simply that we both know that I would fail miserably. The over/under wager for my silence would be about twelve minutes. I have the TV on right now. Im not watching, as the game is a blow out, Its just that I like the sound and company of the TV talking to me. I have heard of dog owners leaving a TV on for their dog when they go to work. Thats me--TV Dog. Id go bonkers at a silent retreat. Id eventually start acting like an annoying American tourist in London, trying to get a reaction from the Royal guards of Buckingham Palace. Id get cast out of the retreat, sent home in shame. Pretty girlfriend in cardigan sweater would be humiliated. Im sure she wouldnt speak to me on the ride home. Yeah, real mature Maureen, the silent treatment.
