Pride is still short a few flag-bearers for the Parade on Sunday - TopicsExpress

Pride is still short a few flag-bearers for the Parade on Sunday (with over 200 flags, thats a lot of bearers!) The events of this week have reminded me how incredibly fortunate we are here in Toronto - carrying a flag for LGBT people from countries where you would be imprisoned or even executed for doing so seems the least we can do. If you can help out, the information follows: Want to march in the WorldPride Parade on Sunday June 29? Marching in a Pride Parade is a unique and amazing experience, and we need your help! We are looking for individuals to be flag bearers in a contingent of flags from around the world that will be over 200-strong. All you have to do is sign up for this special volunteer role online and turn up on Sunday June 29. Flag Bearer Description The Parade of Nations is a marching contingent placed towards the front of the parade. This contingent consists of flag bearers representing countries from around the world. The Parade of Nations will be broken up into five groups, with the flags organized alphabetically by Marshals. This role is suitable for various levels of accessibility; however, individuals must be able to travel the distance of the parade route (2.9 km) transporting the flag upright. Flag bearers may have one attendant if required. Flags aluminum poles are 8 feet long, with a 3x6ft flag (5lb maximum weight). There are no guarantees that you will be assigned to carry the flag of your choice; allocation will be based on a first come, first served basis. Register to be a flag bearer NOW. Simply sign up at makepridehappen. You just need to create a simple profile and then search for the “Parade of Nations Flag Bearer” volunteer role.
