Prior to this years graduation, a local paper asked the graduating seniors, at the high school where I serve as an Assistant Principal, to name the teacher for whom they are the most grateful. I was humbled by the fact that two of the seniors chose me, their administrator, as the educator who had influenced them the most. One student, who Ive worked with ever since she was in middle school, said, If I could thank one teacher K-12, it wouldn’t be a teacher but I would thank Mr. Williams for dealing with me for 6 years, getting me out of so much trouble and making sure I do what it takes to get me here today. Another student said, Mr. Williams...because he pushed me hard to achieve what I believed I couldn’t. On those rare occasions when I question my career choices, I reflect on statements like these, and realize that education chose me...I didnt choose it....and I am grateful for that.
