Problems I had with the new Carrie... 1. Julianne Moore wasnt convincing. While Piper Laurie may have overacted in DePalmas film, it was effective and scary. Although I was never quite sure just which religion it was she was ranting about. At least in the new one, Carrie points out that these verses her mom is spouting out arent even in the Bible. 2. Carrie is partially responsible for her own fate. Although the votes were rigged, she did vote for herself. She put herself on that stage, or at least she should consider that since the votes were so close, her vote may have been the one that put her up. 3. The gym teacher may have gained some peoples sympathy, but she just bothered me. Shes not as selfish as she was in the original, but she seemed young, and possibly caught up in the girl-hates-other-girl mentality the entire senior class of girls was in. She definitely hated Chris, probably before this happened. 4. Adding cellphones to modernize this movie did not help. They literally ripped off a scene from The Rage: Carrie 2, and why anyone would willingly do that is beyond me. 5. This high school appears to be pretty huge, and pretty rich. They play water polo in gym, the school itself is four stories high. So why is the prom in the gym? 6. Casting Chole Grace Moretz as a social outcast makes no sense. She never looks like a girl no one would like. In fact, the only reason I could think of for those girls to be mean to her was because she looked better than any of them did. Overall, this movies not bad. It exceeds the sequel and TV remake, but still falls a jolt or two short of the original. Its worth a watch.
