Prof. K. V Haridasan (1937 - 2014 ) passes away. Heart felt condolences to a teacher, philosopher and a simple human being. (picture source internet). A pioneer of the neo-tantric movement in south India, K. V. Haridasan studied painting in 1966 from the School of Arts and Crafts, Chennai. One of the earliest tantra artists, Haridasan’s art arises from the blending of the rectilinear forms with the curvilinear, the positive and negative, bringing together opposites. The last find representation through the motifs of fire, petal and lotus, often amplified by the artist through his inclination towards the semiotics of the oval form. Haridasan paints in mixed media, oil, acrylic, crayon as well as watercolour and ink, rendering a frequently sensuous form. Haridasan’s well-known series Brahmasutra has been exhibited at the Jehangir Art Gallery in 1992, ’94 and ’97, in Mumbai. Awarded substantially throughout his career, he has been a recipient of the Tamil Nadu Academy award in 1964, the senior fellowship by the Department of Culture, Government of India in 1989 and 1990. In 1994, he was nominated as an Eminent Artist by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, and received the Senior Fellowship from the Department of Human Resources, Government of India. From 1989-92, Haridasan worked as principal of the Government College of Arts, Trivandrum. (source Delhi Art Gallery)
