Promises of Holiness Leviticus 11:45 For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. Just as the Jewish people were in bondage in Egypt, we were in bondage to sin. Jesus brought us out of bondage when he paid the price for our sins by his death on the tree. We can be holy as the Lord is holy by obeying the gospel when we leave sin, are baptized in Jesus name, and receive the Holy Ghost. Colossians 1:21-23 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; 1Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods. God walked in the camp of the Hebrews. He was there to deliver them from their enemies. Their camp had to be holy, for if the Lord saw anything unclean, he would turn away from them. Deuteronomy 23:14 For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee. When we receive the Holy Ghost, the Lord dwells in us. He delivers us from evil. We are a holy people because the blood of Jesus has cleansed us, and we are filled with his Holy Spirit. We cannot team up with those that are living sinful lifestyles or else the uncleanness of sin can become a part of us. 2Corinthians 6:14-7:1 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. With these promises, we want to keep ourselves cleansed of sin, and perfecting holiness! 1Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Romans 6:22-23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are to be a holy sacrifice, not conformed to this sinful world, but rather transformed. Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. It we want to see the Lord, we must follow holiness, full of the Holy Ghost, God’s love, and forgiveness. Hebrews 12:14-15 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; When we are full of Jesus’s love for others, he makes our hearts unblameable in holiness. 1Thessalonians 3:12-13 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: to the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. When we repent of our sins, are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, we become part of Christ’s church. (Acts 2:38-41) By the word of God, we are made holy and clean. By his sacrifice, we are the Bride of Christ, holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (NLT: to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word) that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Holiness not only gives us the promise of walking with God in this present world, but a beautiful promise of the future with him to look forward to!
