Prophets of Science Fiction - Episode 1 - Mary Shelley youtube This show goes hand and hand with the one above. You may not get the connection till about halfway through it, though! As with the movie from the story by EM Foster, it brings up allot of questions and revelations that are more pertinent today than ever before. The questions presented include; what is life, who should determine that and what quality of life is, when do we have a right to take it or create it, is it really what we are here for, why do we as humans tend to follow the word of anyone who tells us strongly and charismatically enough what we should want or have or think in fear or strong opposition to the idea that we must think for ourselves, where does God come in, when given the power over our own creation and destiny why would we choose to let technology generate and guide our lives for us, why do we choose synthetic interactions over real ones, are they just as good or are they damaging us as a human race, what about decision making processes-if these are generated for us by the popularity of a person or a machine instead of our own painfully and lengthy processes of determination of right from wrong-do we become stoic/passive to the needs of others as some suggest we have become merely watching violence in front of us or Hitler like charisma bandied about and easily followed by a society gradually numbed by technology including anything from books to movies and computers simulating these same conditions, when is it better to get involved rather than let someone or something dictate the easier path-or is it at all, does morality have any real function or is it just a way to control us, do we need guidance as a species and if so from who, should we prize the hard work of the sweat of the brow and human suffering to gain insight or is insight an outdated way of life easily overcome by putting our trust in a higher power completely and should that higher power be purely secular or purely religious or a combination of both, why would one religion be so popular if it gave all the answers and why are some drawn to the strictness of a religion which outlines a strict moral path and others to a religion in which we may either choose to interpret the Bible on or own or dismiss parts of it as being outdated in order to further the increase in interest of that religion, where is the line drawn between being told what to think-feel-say and the completeness of self-actualization and free will, and what types of power or technology or policy should we be wary of and which are in place because of long lived thought processes and determinations by the human brain of right and wrong and again are those modes of determination outdated? I think we have reached the point of critical mass here and that every one of you should watch both of these programs and give it some though OR be cognitive of your tendency to override those thoughts easily by way of the opinions of those you have deemed more knowledgeable and capable of thought or decision than yourself. I think, if you want to know where I personally stand, if you are a free thinker, you will KNOW very easily but that’s not the point. The point is in determining after determining by way of these types of complex thoughts where you yourself stand because in order for anyone to have power, we must first give them that power by way of relinquishing our own. It’s a thinker!!!!!!!
