Propranolol (brand name Inderal) was the first beta-blocker on the market. Beta-blockers have a myriad of uses including: high blood pressure, angina (or heart pain), slow down heart rate (treat tachycardia), prevent migraine, and treating tremor to name a few. Beta-blockers work by blocking the action of epinephrine. Epinephrine is the same thing as adrenaline, so beta-blockers slow down the changes your body goes through when you get scared.
