Protect Our Dark Skies This image I captured last night in the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve showing why we really need to protect our dark skies. In the near future I could see the Torrance Barrens just being another place people used to come and visit to view the night sky. This was captured at 3am and you can see heavy light pollution to the far right coming from the local city, Gravenhurst. Then there are three rays of light appearing all night, pointed straight up, not even sure where or what they are for, maybe planes or something.... Then to the far left you can start to see the northern sky being polluted by houses and a couple street lights that Torrance. This is my local place to view and throughout the years has been slowly getting worst and worst. The biggest culprit being businesses who need to have a super bright lights on showing off their company name when they are not even open, pits who are closed and have massive bulb lights overlooking the entire pit. There are so many solutions to these problems and you can even save money. For more information feel free to visit darksky.org. I have been trying to come in contact with local cities and hope I can do whatever I can to help save my local dark sky. Sorry for the rant but sometimes, I mean all the time I see lights that are unneeded I get upset. ©2013 - Wesley Liikane - Cowboy with a Camera ·
