"Protected bikeways" - bikeways parallel to a roadway or street but separated by some kind of buffer or physical barrier - are seen by some as a great way to get more people on bikes, and by others as creating a false sense of security that lulls bicyclists into dangerous situations, particularly at intersections. Some have suggested that building protected bikeways to entice more people to take up bicycling is like installing diving boards at the 2-foot-deep end of pools to entice more people to take up swimming. What do you think?
