Protesters Mark 3rd Anniversary of Renewed Kachin War Kachins and other ethnic nationalities around the world join to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of renewed war in Kachin region. Monday marks the 3rd anniversary of renewed war that began on June 9, 2011 after 17 years of ceasefire between Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and Burmese Government. More than 5000 Myitkyina residents on Monday took to the streets wearing T-shirts with the message “Unforgettable 6/9” to mark the third anniversary. Several city residents show their support as a community-wide prayer walk, which started at Kachin Baptist Convention’s headquarters in Shanzu quarter, and ended at the Kachin Theological Seminary’s Jubilee hall in Nawng Nang village, led by Kachin Baptist and community leaders, passed their houses and shops on Myitkyina-Nawng Nang motor road. The protesters then staged a mass rally in the afternoon at the Jubilee hall calling for peace, justice and self-determination. kachinlandnews/?p=24510
