Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. There’s nothing that hurts quite like a friend telling us a hard truth. When we hear hard truth from the right source, evil desires that are trying to maintain a hold on our heart rise up in rebellion. Our gut reaction is to justify our position, to make our case! That happens, yet in our hearts we know that conviction has found us, and that change for the better is being introduced into our lives. On the flip side, none of us enjoy being patronized or receiving false praise. That is the kiss of an enemy, and it may even come from those who call themselves our friends. Lord God, give us wisdom as we receive encouragement from others, and as we offer it. Grant us the courage to speak the truth in love and be our rear guard as false positives seek to infiltrate our way of life.
