Psalm 85-Songs of Joy Bring Healing The children of Israel were experiencing captivity in Babylon. They were in captivity because they trusted in the leadership of man rather than the leadership of God. In Psalm 137 their anxiety is compared to the lack of joy which is expressed in the music of praise. Music calms the soul. Have you noticed that some music lifts your heart and some makes you feel sad or scared? Music in a major key matches our heart rhythm. Music in a minor key does not match our heart rhythm and makes us feel afraid or sad. Horror movies have music in a minor key in the background. A life in stress is compared to a life with no music. Psalm 137:2-4 2 We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it. 3 For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How shall we sing the LORD’s song In a foreign land? Psalm 85-This is a Song of Joy Because Life for God’s People is Improving. Yesterday was a day we shared family memories and a meal. It was a celebration of God’s provision and care for man. God is our praise. Psalm 22:3 3 You are the holy one, enthroned. You are Israel’s praise. The Psalmist listed God’s kindness to the land. LORD, you’ve been kind to your land; you’ve changed Jacob’s circumstances for the better. The Psalmist thanked God for His forgiveness and the end of His anger. 2 You’ve forgiven your people’s wrongdoing; you’ve covered all their sins. Selah 3 You’ve stopped being furious; you’ve turned away from your burning anger. God is the only One who can save and restore. The Psalmist asks God to show His love in salvation. 4 You, the God who can save us, restore us! Stop being angry with us! 5 Will you be mad at us forever? Will you prolong your anger from one generation to the next? 6 Won’t you bring us back to life again so that your people can rejoice in you? 7 Show us your faithful love, LORD! Give us your salvation! Psalm 30 reveals the character of the Lord. God’s anger lasts for only a second but His favor lasts forever. Psalm 30 4 You who are faithful to the LORD, sing praises to him; give thanks to his holy name! 5 His anger lasts for only a second, but his favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay all night, but by morning, joy! My prayer for you today is that you experience joy and that you share your joy with God and others.
