Psyllium fiber is effective for fecal incontinence Psyllium fiber may treat bowel leakage from fecal incontinence as well as loperamide and have fewer side effects, according to a cross-over study from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Loperamide can cause constipation, which can be a co-existing problem for people with fecal incontinence-related diarrhea, researchers said.
