Pull Into Herald’s Garage For Quality and Integrity In the old - TopicsExpress

Pull Into Herald’s Garage For Quality and Integrity In the old days, it was repairing hay trucks that drove in off dusty streets. Today, it’s working on anything from the family car to RVs to diesel engines. That’s the journey that Herald’s Garage in Paramount has taken since opening in 1937 to the newly remodeled business of 2009. “It was very run down, both the business and the property, when I bought it in 1999,” said owner Joe Abed. Not only has he refreshed the property physically, but he made sure that the business was clean as a whistle, too. “We don’t concentrate on quantity, we emphasize quality,” he noted. “We keep our customers happy, and tell them to keep up with their maintenance so they don’t need repairs, which saves a lot of money. I tell everyone who walks through the door that if I lie to you about your car I’ll give you $1,000. If you’re not happy with the work we do, we’ll take your car to a dealer, have them diagnose the problem, and if something wrong was our fault I’ll pay the bill.” Abed has yet to been called on his offer. Herald’s Garage is a full-service, complete automotive repair shop specializing in heavy trucks, fleet service for companies, RVs as well as body work and painting. They use factory parts and offer extended warranties. Their computer system provides information on any vehicle made anywhere in the world. “For the last 35 years, I’ve worked in heavy equipment, diesel to gas, any kind of mechanic work. I’ve been working on cars my whole life. Our mechanics are all certified, and I put them all through a test when they apply here for a job. I use a little trick to see if they know what they’re doing: I ask if they know how to replace a water filter. A lot of them say, yeah, sure, so either they’re not paying attention or they don’t have the knowledge. Either way, you don’t want them working on your cars. “We check and double check and triple check our work,” Abel continued. “We don’t advertise except for the Pulse Beat and a phone number in the Yellow Pages, because we have a loyal customer base. We give courtesy discounts to Chamber members but don’t take competitors coupons and don’t give away freebies – we don’t cut corners.” In fact, the major promotion for the business is a flyer that features its A rating report from the Better Business Bureau. This reputation has spread far and wide, as customers come in for their routine maintenance from locales like San Clemente, Riverside and San Luis Obispo. “This is a great town, and I’m happy to be here,” Abed related. “We work with a lot of churches in Paramount and Compton, I’m a member of Elks and the Chamber, and get to Lion’s and Rotary clubs when I can. This area is full of caring people and it’s a pleasure to be part of the community.” Herald’s Garage is located at 8124 Alondra Blvd., and can be reached by calling (562) 633-2136; open six days a week.
