Pupils in Transnistria need you to defend their right to free, fearless education There are eight schools that teach its’ students using the Romanian language. Romanian is the official language of Moldova. All the others use the Cyrillic-script and teach in Russian. Pupils and teachers from Romanian language schools face constant harassment from separatist authorities. Schools are surrounded by barbed wire, goods are sequestrated, bank accounts blocked, pupils kidnapped and convicted on fake cases. These schools risk being closed by September 2013, as Russian-backed separatist administration desires schools to register with their authorities and pay rent and taxes to them. This is not considered appropriate because they are regarded as illegitimate authorities in Moldova. Prominent personalities, as well as members of civil society and students have submitted up until now messages of support for pupils and teachers from Latin-script schools in Transnistria. These messages are intended to encourage them to continue the fight for their right to education. The campaign aims to raise awareness among authorities, people in Moldova and around the world, as well as the international community about this issue. We invite you to support these people.
