Puppies have had the 1st of 4 vaccines in the series to be given 3 weeks apart. Vaccine is a combo that covers Distemper, Hepatitis and parvo. Puppy will not be fully protected until all 4 vaccines received. Around 12/27/2013 Rabies vaccine @ 1 year. (this must be given by a vet) Our little guys and girl got their first shot @ 7 weeks. Next @ 10 weeks, 13 wks, 16 wks, 1 yr. 16 wks is right after Christmas. Until then please keep them safe as they are vulnerable to these potentially life ending diseases. Use this time to work on a good recall. If you have a good solid recall, when all vaccines are done, the world will open up to you and your pup. Play the Name game. 2 people each with small treats, take turns calling the dog.Each taking a step back each time. Use a special word to call your dog. Each and EVERY time you use this word to call your pup, have a nice treat for them when they come. Never use the word with out some reward during this learning period. My word is here and I clap. Clap travels farther then my voice sometimes. Always be happy when pup comes to you. Even if it takes a while. Feeding. I have been free feeding for the most part. but you can feed in the morning and evening. If the pup seems hungry,....give him more. Your puppy can hold his bladder for approx 3 hrs. Pls don’t expect them to be able to wait all day while you are at work. At my house, the little buggers liked to tear the pee pads up. maybe you will have better luck. I ended up just using packing paper or news paper. You might try taping the pads down on the floor. You will also notice that your puppy will run right through their pooh to get to you. Then they will jump up on your legs with their poppy little paws. So happy to see you. If you have sliding glass doors, put a small X on the side that opens, so when it is closed your pup does not run into it. Sorry, they have gotten used to just pushing through the plastic I have hanging over our doorway. Allowing them to go out to potty when they need to and still keep any flying insects and the cold out. I only thought of this today when someone closed the screen door and I had 3 puppies running full blast right into it. Bo-ing! Someone could have gotten hurt.
