Puppy Awareness Week NEVER buy puppies through advertisements in - TopicsExpress

Puppy Awareness Week NEVER buy puppies through advertisements in local papers and on the internet or from pet shops and AVOID anywhere advertising more than three different breeds. Sadly, puppy farming, the practice where dogs are bred purely for profit often with no license and with no concern for the health or welfare of the dogs, is still big business. They are often taken from their mother and siblings far too early causing socialisation problems with people and other dogs. A puppy should not leave its mother before it is 8 weeks old. Ask to see the puppy and its siblings with their mother and watch them interact, look at the conditions they are kept in and ask for all the paper work - does it all look correct. As hard as it is do not buy a puppy because you think you are rescuing it as this will only make space for another poor puppy condemning further puppies. Please let us know your experiences when getting a new puppy.
