Puppy news - what we should expect from birth to 2 weeks: born with their ears and eyes firmly closed puppies are deaf and blind. Ears start to pop up towards the end of the second week and eyes should open from about day 10 to 15. New puppies can not support themselves on their tiny little legs they just paddle about finding their mum by smell and snuggling for warmth as they can not regulate their own temperature. Pictures of puppies with their emerging ears and eyes will be posted when it happens. We would have liked to move Dora and her little ones to the Raggalds Barn Luxury Dog Kennel (private bedroom, family sized dog bed and separate indoor play room but it is so chilly that we are keeping her (and them) inside for a while longer. A cold puppy can all too quickly become a dead puppy. It is a shame she has to stay in the dog cage for longer because it would be more comfortable for Dora and she would probably feel that it was more secure for her puppies as it is away from the other dogs. Also it is a little difficult for the rest of us as this means the washing machine is out of bounds and there is every possibility that I shall have to call on sisters and friends if I am to have clean clothes for Monday!
