Q: What are your views on asylum seekers? A: The asylum seekers issue has been managed dreadfully by the LibLabs. This is an incredibly complex issue and should not be a primary election issue. On one side, we need people who show initiative and guts and all people who arrive by boat show that. On the other side, I am acutely aware of survivor bias which is the reason why we hear great war stories – because the people who died horribly never got to tell their stories. Summary: If I had been Mr Rudd, I would have made Mr Abbott Minister for Illegal Immigration with enough money, expertise and time to solve the problem elegantly instead of attempting to do it myself with a sledge hammer. Yes, we need to stop the boats, but Mr Rudd of all people should know the value of a good international standing
