Q: Why do you think zara ruins fashion? Because it gives people who cant afford ACNEs ridiculous prices access to the same style? A: Not at all, it isn’t about money. Style isn’t about money. / Because they are stealing designs from the real creatives (those designers who are working hard over there at Acne), who are investing time and money in doing research to come up with new concepts, new materials, new techniques. Zara skips this entire process and just takes a short cut, cherry picks from the collections on the runway and brings it into production. That’s why it is much cheaper, they basically don’t have to go through a design and research process like real brands. / Because they are speeding up fashion and have us thinking that it is normal to replace your entire wardrobe every single season. (Which if we had, it would not be doable and affordable to do with ‘designer’ items) they are also rushing the entire fashion industry in producing more and producing faster. They have the designer rip offs in stores before the designers themselves have them in stores. Thanks to Zara, by the time the best shoe of the season finally hits stores, the entire world already has it on its feet and is bored with it. So what happens is that companies like Zara are forcing the entire industry to come up with newer ideas, newer pieces at a faster pace. (creating more waste, having us all spend more money in the end, keeping low-wage-bad-working-environment-factories in business etc.etc.etc.) / Because most of their stuff is made to be replaced (admittedly their leather goods are often quite all right), they are ruining fashion by teaching their customers not to appreciate and value their garments and to see it as something disposable. - Ivania Carpio (of love-aesthetics)
