QP holds ‘Turtle Beach Clean-Up Day’ in Ras Laffan Qatar Petroleum’s Industrial Cities Directorate recently organized an environmental initiative called the “Turtle Beach Clean-Up Day,” which was held last March 13 at Ras Laffan Industrial City’s northern beach. The event attracted the participation of over 700 volunteers from QP, its subsidiaries and joint ventures such as RasGas, Oryx GTL, Ras Laffan Olefins Company, Ras Girtas Power Company, Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd., and Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar Ltd., as well as from other companies including Archirodon, JGC Corporation, Oryx Engineering Solutions, Seashore Engineering, Qatar Engineering & Construction Company, Descon Engineering, Shaqab Abela Catering Services, Consolidated Contractors Company, Gulf Contracting Company, Teyseer Group and Chiyoda Almana Engineering. The event was aimed at cleaning and preserving one of the best nesting spots in Qatar for hawksbill turtles. The beach in Ras Laffan accounts for close to 30% of the total nests for hawksbill turtles in the country. In addition, the initiative also helped enhance the participants’ awareness on environmental issues by involving them in a practical example of what they could do to protect nature and biodiversity. “This beach is a valuable nesting site for hawksbill turtles; hence, the importance of this initiative, which owes its success to the cooperation of all partners and the collective efforts of the volunteers. We have a comprehensive and consistent strategy for environmental protection, ranging from very ambitious plans, such as the zero liquid-waste discharge in the sea, to more simple but valuable endeavors, such as restoring the beauty of our beaches and safeguarding their fauna,” said Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Al Muftah, Director of QP’s Industrial Cities Directorate. In addition to marine turtle conservation, QP’s Industrial Cities Directorate implements many other environmental protection programs in Ras Laffan, including mangrove conservation, reef cultivation and the restoration of seagrass, among others. قطر للبترول تعقد دورة تعريفية عن كيفية مكافحة التسرب النفطي لطلاب المرحلة الابتدائية رحب السيد مبارك الهاجري مدير العمليات البحرية في قطر للبترول اليوم بطلاب ومدرسي المرحلة الابتدائية من كلية الدوحة الذين حضروا الدورة التعريفية والعملية التي نظمتها إدارة التسرب النفطي الطوارىء في قطر للبترول ليوم واحد عن الإستراتيجيات والمعدات المستخدمة في مكافحة التسرب النفطي في دولة قطر. وقد تم عقد هذه الدورة التعريفية والعملية في نادي الشاطئ التابع لقطر للبترول في رأس أبو عبود، حيث بدأت الدورة بشرح مختصر لإرشادات السلامة وعما يجب على الطلاب القيام به خلال هذا النشاط. وقد تم تدريب الطلاب عملياً على تشغيل مجموعة من المعدات المستخدمة في مكافحة التسرب النفطي ومن ضمنها كيفية تركيب أجزاء الحاجز المطاطي والذي يستفاد منه في محاصرة الزيت المتسرب على سطح الماء، وبعد ذلك شارك الطلاب في نشر وتشغيل كاشطات الزيت التي تستخدم في جمع الزيت المتسرب عن سطح الماء وتجميعه وتخزينه. وبنهاية الدورة عُقدت جلسة أسئلة وأجوبة من أجل توعية الطلاب بجاهزية قطر للبترول للتعامل مع التسرب النفطي في المياه القطرية. وفي الختام عبر الطلاب والمدرسون عن خالص شكرهم وتقديرهم لقطر للبترول ممثلة بإدارة التسرب النفطي والطوارئ على الإيضاح والشرح القيم والذي بدوره ساهم في زيادة الوعي البيئي لديهم. وقال السيد علي رجب أشكناني، مدير إدارة التسرب النفطي والطوارئ في قطر للبترول: تولي قطر للبترول أهمية خاصة لحماية البيئة البحرية في جميع أنشطة عملياتها في قطاع النفط والغاز، و يسعدنا مشاركة الطلاب مرة أخرى معلومات عن أنشطة وقدرات الإدارة في هذا المجال. يشار إلى أن هذه هي السنة الرابعة على التوالي التي تنظم فيها قطر للبترول مثل هذه الدورة التعريفية لطلاب المرحلة الابتدائية في كلية الدوحة جزء من برنامج الكلية للتوعية البيئيبة. وكان قد تم عقد الدورة التعريفية الأولى في شهر مارس 2011 حيث شارك فيها 44 طالبا من المرحلة الابتدائية .
