QPR Set To Dominate It was gone 10 o’clock on transfer deadline - TopicsExpress

QPR Set To Dominate It was gone 10 o’clock on transfer deadline day before we were treated to the familiar sight of Harry Redknapp wind down his car window and utter barely understandable sentences about someone being a “top top player”. It was worth the wait for QPR fans though as they learned that their club had landed three quality players who will bolster an already strong Championship squad. I’m going to break down how these signings improve QPR and make it almost impossible for them not to achieve promotion straight back to the top tier of English football and treat this league like Christian Grey treats some young slut (that one’s for the ladies). The trio that have come in on season long loan deals are all former Tottenham players which has always been Harry’s modus operandi. Go to a new club and then pillage his previous one. He’s like a blinking cockney Viking. The players in question are Niko Kranjcar, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and highly regarded youngster Tom Carroll. In picking up these players after their already strong start to the season which sees them in 2nd place QPR have all but guaranteed that they will be in the promotion shake up come May. All 3 should slot straight into the first team and immediately make not only the squad but the first team significantly better. The signing of Kranjcar reminds me of Redknapp bringing in Paul Merson when he took Portsmouth into the Premier League. A creative player who should be able to control games at this level and make everyone around him instantly better. Combine that with a strong central midfield partnership of Barton and Carroll and there is no reason whatsoever QPR cannot win the league this year. Charlie Austin and Andy Johnson will be licking their lips at the prospect of linking up with a imaginative player like Kranjcar and goals should be guaranteed in this team. They also have Zamora still coming back to full fitness and he should slot in nicely alongside Austin to create one of the more formidable partnerships in the league. One issue they may have is with the injury issues of many of their squad with players like Jenas and O’Neil looking more like Darren Anderton remakes with every passing season. If the QPR medical team can somehow learn how to perform miracles then the midfield looks full of quality and, more importantly for this level, depth. Another area of strength for QPR is their solid backline that now include Assou-Ekotto who I think everyone can agree is way too good for this level. Combine him with Clint Hill, Nedum Onuoha and human wardrobe Richard Dunne and you begin to understand why they have kept clean sheets in their last 3 league games. This isn’t even mentioning their goalkeeping situation with Rob Green being one of the best in the division and Brazil number one Julio Cesar still with the squad after failing to secure a move away during the summer. At odds of 5/2 it isn’t exactly a brave prediction to say they will win the league now but I can’t see any other team consistently being as good as QPR. They have the best first team, the strongest squad and the best manager in the division. That is unprecedented and I would not be surprised if they had this league wrapped up in April with a record number of points. I definitely think they hit the magical 100 point mark and after that it’s just a case of whether they have enough next year to push on and actually establish themselves back in the top flight. Their main rivals for the title appear to be, at least at this stage, Watford, Nottingham Forest and Wigan but all three have their weaknesses and that just isn’t the case with this Queens Park Rangers team. Watford leak to many goals and if they lose Troy Deeney for any extended period of time they will struggle to consistently beat teams at this level. Forest have a great first XI and a manager that knows how to achieve success at this level in Billy Davies but they lack the depth to compete with Redknapp’s expensively assembled squad over a full season. Finally we have Wigan who did some great business on deadline day in selling a midfielder who whilst good with a lot of potential isn’t worth £13 million in any way, shape or form. They replaced him with the loan signing of Man United youngster Nick Powell who looks to have a lot of promise but crucially they missed out on the signing of Jordan Rhodes which may have been the key acquisition that tipped this squad from very good to great. Add all of these facts up and basically you have a team that will easily finish in the top 2 and to be honest if they don’t Harry doesn’t deserve another season at the club. Everyone should definitely take out a massive loan from some dodgy loan shark and put on a massive bet at 5/2 and when it comes in feel free to send me a cut. Not the same cut you will get from the loan shark if they don’t win the league obviously.
