QUESTION: DO YOU KNOW WHY THE EVENTS STARTING 18TH OF NOVEMBER 2010 IS CALLED THE ARAB SPRING? Many of us are not students of history and thus we are unable to recognise and contextualise the Arab Spring. Why was it called the Arab Spring? It is because it is named after the events of 1848 all over Europe when Europeans caught the bug of the fervent desire for THE FREEDOMS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES. Thus demonstrations arose all across Europe to challenge monarchical and authoritarian tendencies whether within the context of a constitution or in its absence. That was the period that lead to the gave birth to the eventual reality of democracy in Europe. Thus is recognition of an insurgence of the spirit of demand for participatory governance in the Arab countries the events came to be know as the Arab Spring. What we are witnessing in Egypt today is a continuation of the Arab Spring just like the series of revolutions that gripped many countries in Europe. The error many people are making is to think the Arab Spring ended in Egypt with the election of Mursi. Study the European Spring, also called the Spring of Nations or the Spring Time of the Peoples and learn to understand things in context before called the current events in Egypt a COUP DETAT! Even if you are not a student of past history, you are by default of being old enough, a student of the immediate recent history. This is the same chaos that appointed the road that brought Mursi to power. The same Chaos that established a ceremonial monarchical democracy in the UK without a written constitution. The same Chaos that broke up the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic and liberated its people into choice and development. Most of all the same Chaos that repeat itself over and again from 1789 to 1848 before the France became what it is today, i.e. a democracy.
