QUESTION FROM A FRIEND: I’m wondering how many other Kindergarten teachers out there are required to divide up their class by reading level and trade kids with other teachers for reading instruction, and how they feel about it. We have to divide our kids up based on their DIBELS scores! They make us divide them into low, medium and high. We will be in “non-homeroom” classes for 150 minutes a day! Our district is mandating it this year and I prefer to differentiate in my homeroom and use small groups to meet student needs. Okay, I freely admit that I would hate the thought of sending my babies to another classroom for that much time each day! I would much rather keep them and do it myself… but are any of you doing this successfully and happily?
