The Balkans are the epicenter of antagonisms between the West and the East. QUESTION: Your answer to the war was the film Underground, which was greatly acclaimed. Why, in your opinion, did people react to this story? EMIR KUSTURICA- In this film people who live underground believe they live in the outside world. No-one informs them that the war is over and they continue to be influenced by strong propaganda. But you have the same situation nowadays. The world is dominated by a war economy and this type of economy is constantly inventing wars. Humanitarian organizations, which are always speaking about humanity, are financed by the same sources as wars. The same groups, the same power is generating both. Those who speak of how we need to be human are starting wars. War is one of the major fuels of major economies around the world.
