Quality of instruction is key to raising student achievement. Schools are asking for more and more money. Lets leave businesses open for business so they can collect sales taxes that pay for education. The Tourism Industry wants well educated students and also provides summer jobs so these same students can save for higher education. Lets take a lesson from our neighbors - raise more taxes from businesses that stay open all summer and encourage higher student achievement in Iowa so we can compete in the global economy. . When community entities like pools, aquatic centers, campgrounds, and parks have to close early, taxpayers pick up the bill for them not being able to remain open enough days to pay their annual costs. Do we continue to burden the taxpayers because schools want to start earlier and earlier so the students can take their semester tests before Christmas? Are we teaching them only for testing or are they learning for a lifetime? Do these same students lose all their knowledge during the extended spring breaks, the early outs, the late starts, the days off?
