Quarter final: ITA-GRE 11-9 (after penalties) ITA Fabio Conti, Head Coach: “First, congratulations to Greece, they have a young team with two-three really excellent players, a great mix with plenty of experience and you cannot lay back at any stage of any match against them. Just look at what (Alexandra) Asimaki did today: she couldn’t be stopped in the very last second even though our defender tried it with two hands… But luck was on our side today. Perhaps, we had to suffer a bit, we had to go through these experiences as we made mistakes against Spain and we were penalised for that. But now we survived that, reached the semis so we can play with ease from now, using our brain, not relying only on our heart.” Giulia Gorlero: “We did not concentrate enough in the closing seconds of the game, that’s why it went to a penalty shootout. I managed to save two penalties, because I had studied the Greek players before the game, so I knew what to expect from them in the shootout.” GRE Georgios Morfesis, Head Coach: “We fought like a Greek team does. Even if we made some mistakes I am satisfied, we improved a lot during these Championships. We showed everyone that we can follow the Greek traditions. We were preparing for the penalty shootout because we knew it was going to be a tight game. We had watched some videos, but it was not enough. We didn’t have enough luck to win.” Antigoni Roumpesi: “We didn’t want to lose, that’s why we fought until the very last second. We scored an amazing goal that showed how enthusiastic our team was. We played with our hearts. But if you go to a penalty shootout, it is always 50-50. Anyway, I am happy we could prove that we are a good team.”
