Que lo lea el Gobierno Peruano: TOURISM MATTERS TO FLORIDA, AND IN A BIG WAY March 10, 2014 |Florida Chamber Foundation Tourism matters to Florida, and in a big way. For every 85 visitors to the state, one additional job is created. Of the 7.6 million jobs in Florida, more than 1 million are related to tourism activity. Florida relies on a healthy tourism sector to drive our economic engine and secure a prosperous future. In 2013, the state’s investment in tourism paid off. Florida received almost 95 million visitors last year – setting a record for the third consecutive year. In fact, during the past three years, more than 275 million people from around the world have come to visit our state. According to research conducted by Florida TaxWatch’s Center for Competitive Florida, Florida tourism contributes $51 billion directly to Florida’s GDP each year. Florida is built for tourism. Consider the facts: - Florida has more miles of coastline than any other state in the continental United States. Beach tourism accounts for roughly 40 percent of all Florida tourism. - Florida is home to eight of the top 20 amusement parks in North America, which includes the largest single-site employer in the nation. - More than half of all U.S. cruise traffic originates from three Florida ports. - Florida has more freshwater springs than any other state and draws tourists from around the world to more than 900 spring locations within the state. As Florida continues to lead the nation in tourism, it is important to note the ultimate economic development result tourism has for Florida – jobs. Increasing our visitation number from 95 million to 100 million would bring substantial returns, including: An increase of as many as 60,000 jobs, more than $3 billion in additional GDP for the state, and an estimated $43,751 average salary for tourism jobs. “With the Florida Chamber’s support, Florida continues to be a premier place to visit, live, work, play and raise a family,” said Will Seccombe, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
