Queensland news: An eleventh hour amendment to already controversial mining laws in Queensland has triggered anger from landholders and green groups, with a lawyer saying the new legislation restricts the rights of landholders to object to a mining lease application. The State Government said its Mineral and Energy Resources (Common Provision) Bill 2014 was designed to cut red tape and duplication in the process that miners go through to get a mining lease and an environmental authority. ________________________________________________ It seems every State is watering down its environmental regulations while at the same time Hunt/Abbott is passing the buck on (Commonwealth) assessments to the States
